How To Grow Plants In A Garden
By pn7f7s0w | February 25, 2009
The soil pH effects what plants will grow best in a given soil. PH affects the availability of micronutrients in the soil and also the toxicity of aluminum in the soil. Since different plants have different nutrient requirements; the pH of the soil is quite often the factor that will limit the ability of the gardener to grow a specific plant. While pH is the single most important factor in whether a plant will grow well in a soil, many other factors such as texture, drainage, organic matter content, and fertilizer application can also greatly affect the likelihood of growing a specific flower successfully. This is key when examining better homes and gardens.
Poor Germination, slow germination or No Germination may be cause by several factors including old seed, seeds that need to be stratified or scarified, or improper temperature. Seeds varied in how long they may be kept before they no longer will germinate. It is best to store them in a covered container in a cool place. It may become necessary to purchase new seeds and replant if no seeds or very few germinate. Also, planting more than one seed per container or cell increase the probability that each cell will have at least one seed germinates. The strongest seedling is kept with the others be destroyed or replanted. Many people don’t know that some women even prefer a great plant to diamond earings.
Strafication is the process of simulating cold winter conditions. Stratification is normally not needed with purchased seeds but may be required for seeds saved from plants or obtained via seed exchanges. With large seeds you can mix them with peat moss, sphagnum moss, and vermiculite and placed them in a sealed bag in the refrigerator.
With smaller seeds, you may sow them in potting mix and place them in the refrigerator. Make sure the mix is kept moist. When the required cold period is completed, plant them in a moist potting mix and place the planted seeds in a warmer area to germinate. Scarification is the process of nicking hard seeds with a knife or sanding paper to enable easier germination. Different seeds have different temperature requirements to germinate. Many seeds like a temperature around 75 F to germinate rapidly. This is not exactly true for all plants though, like the hemp used to make hemp sandals.
